The burden of achieving your goals…

Speak to most people and you’ll realize one of the harshest realities we have all come to terms with as we grow into being independent adults is that the burden of achieving your goals or changing your circumstances rests with nobody else but you!

Gone are the days where you have someone else, a parent or elder, initiate things for you. Gone are the days where your shortcomings are sheltered and covered by someone else. The wrath of your mistakes and failures rests squarely with yourself. You face the painful task of having to admit, most times after humiliation, your faults and flaws in the full view of friends and foes. As challenging and painful as these times are, they have the ability to shape us into better human beings.

Being intentional with your actions helps with navigating these difficult times. It is so easy to coast along life believing the age old saying “if it’s meant to be, it will be”. Unfortunately, sometimes life doesn’t afford us that luxury. To earn tomorrow, you need to work today. To find happiness tomorrow, you need to learn or unlearn some things today. Life is all about intentional actions. Yes, there will be instances of great fortune where you receive things with minimal effort on your end. Unfortunately, these are far and few in-between.

Being intentional with your actions also summons the gods of life to be on your side. The universe almost collaborates with your intentions. Do you remember that one time you saw a t-shirt and instantly fell in love with it? Do you remember that before that day, you had never seen it before? Once you fell in love with it and wanted it, what happened? All of a sudden you saw many people wearing it. Do you get where I’m going with this?

I heard something powerful while listening to some motivational audios one day and the speaker said “many people don’t fail because they aim too high and miss. People fail because they aim too low and hit”.
